More
of our History . . .
The
impetus for starting Hexed! came out of our own
desire for exactly these kinds of products, and our inability
to find them on the market. As die-hard fans of such games
as "AD&D," "DragonQuest," and "GURPS,"
we were always looking for 3D visual aids specifically for
RPGs that used hexes (as opposed to squares) for tactical
simulation. Eventually, we concluded that if we wanted these
products, we would have to create them ourselves.
Although
our original focus was on fantasy games that used hexes,
we soon realized that we didn't want to exclude any RPG
players, regardless of their chosen gaming system, and we
didn't want to limit ourselves to sword & sorcery. We
wanted our products to be helpful to any gamer and to enhance
games of any genre.
We
started generating ideas for various product lines and we
came up with what we believed was a good variety to start
out. We worked hard toward bringing those ideas to fruition,
each of us focusing on different aspects of the initial
product designs. We wanted to make them available online
quickly, but we soon discovered that we needed more time
to develop some product standards so that all our future
products would interchange and work together seemlessly.
Early product testing made us also re-examine the sizes
of some of our products, and we developed a unique 3' Scale
which we are proud to call proprietary to Hexed! Products.
Still, even with all the development going on, we
had only long-distance communication, since we live half-way
across the country from each other. It was important to
have an exchange of creative energy outside of emails &
phone calls.
So,
in early August of 2006, we got together for a 3-day developmental
brainstorming session to nail down the final details of
our first 2 product lines and the
development of our first 5 product packages. We finished & uploaded our first product - the Fantasy/Medieval Tavern -in September of 2006, and added the Magic Wall Sections in late November. We then began looking into the development of our Wire Templates for area of effect, a process which hit some snags early on.
At that time, we decided that, before we really started marketing our website & products, we should complete several more product packages & generate more detailed instructions for the Cellulose Scenix product line. Another extended period of development & play-testing followed, during which we generated numerous illustrations for the instructions. In August of 2007, our long-time RPG group gathered in the San Francisco Bay Area for several days of gaming, which incorporated a large prototype 3D environment from Hexed! Products. We got a lot of positive feedback about how much the model improved playability, and we knew we were on to something.
Since late 2007, the economic recession has affected each of us negatively. This has led to further unavoidable setbacks in our product development schedule. We remain a small, 2-man company and anything that affects one of us, affects the company. Nevertheless, we are determined that Hexed! Products will continue to develop new products.
Our mission at Hexed! Products is to provide the best possible gaming aids for tabletop RPGs, and our policy is 100% customer satisfaction.
